The 14-time world champion is one of the most famous names to ever come out of wrestling and in his almost two-decade-long career, Triple H has seen and done it all.

Many will feel that the break of kayfabe with the Clique back in the 90s is the best story Hunter has to offer, but, HHH has been involved in way more than we could imagine. These stories add a sense of personality to the man behind the suit.

Here are the five best real-life Triple H stories.

#5 Nearly fought with Goldberg at an airport

It’s no locker room secret that Bill Goldberg hated the guts of Triple H, and the former WCW Superstar has expressed that hatred publicly on many an occasion. To this day it’s said the two still have heat. However, this heat formed before they were even in the same company.

Back in 1999, Triple H ribbed Goldberg for injuring himself in a segment with Bret Hart. Goldberg didn’t take too kindly to the criticism and when the two ran into each other at an airport, it descended into chaos.

Goldberg made a b-charge for The Game, and in response, Triple H beckoned security to restrain Goldberg and escort him off the premises. It’s a wonder as to how the two were able to co-exist during their matches in 2003.

#4 The Montreal Screwjob was his idea

Perhaps the most infamous moment in wrestling history, the Montreal Screwjob defined an era and time in wrestling. It ushered in the Attitude Era whilst simultaneously putting an end to the reign of Bret Hart.

There has been much speculation over years on who’s idea it was. Some have said Vince McMahon, while others have said it was Shawn’s devious plan. But the true brains behind the operation was Triple H.

In Shawn Michael’s book ‘Heartbreak & Triumph’, the Hall of Famer revealed that Hunter came up with the idea weeks in advance of Survivor Series. It’s said that Hunter wasn’t particularly fond of Bret’s abrupt attitude at the time and felt he didn’t deserve to be treated with courtesy.

So, after he suggested it, Vince took it on board and made the bold final call.

#3 He crushed his throat during a match

In the main event of Survivor Series 2002, the WWE put on their first ever Elimination Chamber match. With this event, the cruelty of the match was born and now it rivals Hell in a Cell as the most demonic structure in all of WWE.

In the chamber match, Rob Van Dam hit his signature five-star frog splash from the top of the chamber onto the World Heavyweight Champion.

Unfortunately, RVD’s knee hit Hunter’s throat and crushed his larynx. Despite struggling to breathe, Triple H continued to wrestle for another 30 minutes, making him a true tough guy, not just a pretend one.

#2 He asked for Taker’s blessing for Stephanie McMahon

As someone relatively new to the business, it was almost career suicide for Triple H to make advancements on the boss’s daughter. But he claimed he could not hide his true feelings any longer and wanted to act upon it.

After several interactions on TV between the two, Hunter developed feelings and plotted to ask her out. Scared about what the rest of the locker room would say, Triple H sought advice from the locker room leader, The Undertaker.

The Undertaker asked Triple H if Stephanie was worth the risk and if he could live with the backstage accusations. Hunter replied in the affirmative, and with that The Undertaker told him if he loved her, he should do what his heart says.

That blessing gave Hunter the confidence to approach Stephanie, ultimately leading to the formation of wrestling’s most famous power couple.

#1 He legitimately beat up a fan

He may have been the ultimate heel back in the late 90s, but Triple H took the safety of his fellow wrestlers really serious. This displays the camaraderie he has with other wrestlers he deems his equal in the locker room.

All the way in Germany back in 1998, Stone Cold and Triple H were wrestling each other at a house show. They could have never predicted that a fan would jump the barrier, get into the ring and attack Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The German fan jumped on a defenceless Stone Cold, seemingly punching and kicking him. Triple H responded by angle-slamming the fan and pummelling him to the ground. It was only security that spared the fan from the rest of Hunter’s wrath.

Not only does this show HHH’s passion for the business but it shows the lengths he’ll go to protect others.
