Over the course of the last 15 years, Ring of Honor has continued to develop talent and hone characters. They have gone through periods of transition, and those that have come through their doors always speak fondly about their time with the promotion.
Despite undergoing as many changes as it has, Ring of Honor has remained committed to consistently putting on the most engaging and exciting form of wrestling possible. Their partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling, allowing them to bring in talent from that promotion, has only added to the talent roster that it houses.
Each year the names of the talent may change, but as a result, new names helped make Ring of Honor as successful as it is today. Here are the five best current Ring of Honor stars.
#5 Marty Scurll
He is The Villain. After competing all over the United Kingdom, Marty Scurll has arrived in ROH. During his time there, Scurll has managed to capture the ROH World Television Championship and has been ushered into the Bullet Club as their newest member.
As a result, he has become an integral part of the faction’s present and future. When he first joined the group, he debuted with his signature top hat and plague mask, holding an umbrella.
With Nick and Matt Jackson flanking him, Scurll opened the umbrella to reveal the Bullet Club symbol and logo. A systematic beat down of Adam Cole followed. His persona, his in-ring technical prowess, and his ability to match rings styles with everyone he is in the ring with proves just how significant Scurll is not just for Bullet Club, but for Ring of Honor as well.
#4 Will Ospreay
The aerial assassin is exactly what his nickname suggests he is. He is deadly from the air and will attack his opponent with reckless abandon. He also has a charismatic nature about him that would make Jeff Hardy proud.
The excitement level brought by Ospreay’s risks in the ring is only matched by the excitement at the calibre of opponent he is in the ring against. Whether he is matched up against long-time rival Marty Scurll or current Ring of Honor World Champion Cody, Ospreay takes countless risks in the ring to ensure that he is able to turn heads.
At only 24 years of age, Ospreay has earned some match of the year honours for his match against Ricochet last year as part of the Best of the Super Juniors. While he hasn’t captured any championships in ROH to date, that doesn’t suggest that there aren’t things like that planned for him moving forward.
#3 Jay White
At 24 years of age, the New Zealander has slowly earned notoriety competing for such promotions as New Japan Pro Wrestling and Revolution Pro Wrestling, prior to joining Ring of Honor. What is remarkable to note about White is that he has only been in the ring for four years.
In such a short time, he has managed to not only cross paths with the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn Balor, he has also appeared on television in North America as well.
The experience he has gained has been remarkable, and in his short time in ROH he has had high profile matches against the likes of former ROH champion Jay Brisco and Christopher Daniels. His future is bright, as he continues to face the biggest names that the promotion has to offer, and will come out the other side as one of the company’s most popular talents.
#2 Travis ‘Flip’ Gordon
Gordon’s in-ring career began only a couple of years ago, but he has managed to develop an outstanding skill set. Gordon is able to hit his opponent with a variety of high flying moves, moves unseen in Ring of Honor before, thanks to his athletic background.
Before joining Ring of Honor, Gordon developed his mat technique in the New England area as part of the New England Pro Wrestling Academy. He earned a contract after he was successful at Ring of Honor’s tryout camp and soon was seen on television.
Gordon is a four-time state wrestling champion and was also a gymnast and mascot for College of North Idaho. One of the most interesting stories to note about Gordon is that he served in the National Guard, where he became a Combat Engineer. While Gordon is relatively new to Ring of Honor, the buzz surrounding his arrival with the promotion continues to grow.
#1 ‘American Nightmare’ Cody
The new Ring of Honor World Champion, Cody, is no stranger to the world of sports entertainment, and has now become the most talked about talent in the promotion today. When Cody defeated Christopher Daniels for the ROH title, he just added to his already impressive legacy.
And if that wasn’t enough, he has also been ushered in as a member of Bullet Club. Thus, he has come to the promotion as part of the biggest faction in the world today, and in doing so has only enhanced his significance in the industry.
His achievements in the ring prior to when he came to ROH are well documented, and Cody has captured the attention of fans and critics alike. His matches against Jay Lethal were just the beginning of his ascent in the promotion. He has come to ROH to create a legacy that his late father, Dusty, would be proud of. Cody’s time with Ring of Honor is going to be key to the promotion’s future.
