Strikers have always been a fundamental part of every team’s attack as they are providing goals for their club.
If your striker is in a bad form or misses his chances, you can see that in a team’s point amount. These players can win, but also lose your team titles, so it makes sense to get the best possible attacker in your squad.
This article provides you with the currently best players in this position. (Only players that made their majority of games in this role are considered). The criteria to this list are the numbers this season, individual performance and importance for the team.
Lionel Messi is definitely worth to be mentioned, as he is also an insane striker. However, the Argentinian played most of his games as a right-winger and will, therefore, be mentioned on a slide about this position.
Players that just missed out and should be included in a top 10: Antoine Griezmann, Robert Lewandowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubamaeyang, Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez.
#5 Harry Kane
Kane is not only the captain of England but also the team’s most expensive player. At only 25 years old, he already managed to find the net over 191 times.
Consistently scoring at least 20 times in Premier League for his club Tottenham over the last five seasons.
A huge number, but his Champions League record looks even more impressive. In the 17 games he played in the competition, he managed to bang in 14 goals and assisted another 3.
His playing style is comparable to a target man. Due to his height, Kane is able to get at the end of crosses or long balls and either lay the ball off or make a great finish.
His positioning is world-class and he seems able to strengthen out nearly every opponent’s defender. Despite his size and clunky appearance, he is also on a very good technical level. Another great aspect is his ambitiousness as he often tries to get through an injury as fast as possible, standing on the pitch even though he might not be 100% fit.
In this season, he can already call 17 league goals to his name, despite missing four games due to torn ligaments. His influence on the team is not only due to his leadership, but also seen on the scoresheet, scoring 30% of the team’s goals.
#4 Luka Jovic
Jovic is right now in his breakthrough season in the Bundesliga. The 21-year-old only scored 48 goals in his 133 career games, but from this number, nearly half of them came in this season.
Jovic already had his debut at 16 in the Serbian first division, but after a few seasons a weird transfer saga (He left the club in 2016 for Cyprus’ club Apol. Limassol, who sold him one day later for a profit of 4 million to Benfica), he ended up in Germany.
He is the league’s top scorer an attracted interest from nearly every top club including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The Serbian striker is a rare player. Nearly no other player at this young age is such a strong poacher.
He got great positioning in attack and always finds a way to cut through defenses. What makes him special is, that he can combine that with both, quite good passing (having already 6 assists this season) and good physical assets, which he knows how to use.
In this season, Jovic really turned up. He already doubled his biggest goal tally and does not seem to be stoppable. The striker also managed to score his first international goal against Germany this season.
In the Europa League, he also managed to bang in the ball seven times, which makes him the best scorer behind Giroud, who I still in the competition. The Frankfurt player is not only is an elite scorer this season, but he also seems to be a quality player on the ball.
#3 Sergio Agüero
The Argentinean is one of the best and most successful strikers to ever play in the Premier League. While being Manchester City’s most prolific ever Premier League goalscorer, at 161, this mark is only topped by eight players in the history of the competition, with Henry being the only foreign one of them all.
His Champions League statistics are also very good, at 36 goals (of whom 14 have come under Guardiola in the recent three years).
Agüero is the definition of a fox in the box. He may be agile and insanely good on the ball but is main strength is his phenomenal positioning. The City striker can disappear a whole match, but in one moment, he positions himself behind the opponent and score with a great finish.
Another big plus is his ability to turn up in big games, as he scored at least 8 times against every other top six opponents so far.
The 18/19 season is something like a revival for the ex-Atletico Madrid player, who was thought to be replaced by Gabriel Jesus at this stage. He scored 18 times in the Premier League this season of whom three came in an unforgettable hat-trick against Chelsea.
#2 Kylian Mbappe
Mbappé already won a world cup aged 19. In this summer, he was not only simply a young talent in the France-squad; Kylian was one of the best players in this tournament.
He scored 4 goals and assisted 1 furthermore in his seven games, which is insane for such a young player.
The £155 million man already scored 55 league goals in his young career. Most of those came from the right wing, where he started his career. However, his new German coach Tuchel transformed the ex-Monaco player into a striker.
The Frenchman is a striker with a rare style of playing. Insanely fast, he is able to outsprint every opponent to get to the end of through balls. Mbappé combines his speed with great technical ability, skillfulness and decent physical strength.
He appears also to be quite good in the box, finishing most of his chances, and often being found in smart positions.
In this season, the PSG-striker is on absolute fire. He scored 26 Ligue 1 goals and assisted 8 as well in only 23 occasions. Mbappé is rated as the best, most expensive and most influential U-21 player in the world and at least in this season, is rightfully called world-class.
#1 Cristiano Ronaldo
In his 695 career games, Ronaldo scored an insane 502 goals for club and country. For both Real Madrid and Portugal, he is the record goalscorer.
He has also banged in the most goals in the Champions League - 124 in total. Those numbers are obscene for a striker, especially one who played consistently on such a high level as Ronaldo is doing right now.
The Juventus play has it all. He is fast, strong and tall at the same time, very good on and off the ball and possesses some amazing shooting abilities.
Ronaldo is very skillful but still quite efficient and can score goals from every angle, with every allowed part of the body. He can especially turn up in big games and lead his squad to titles single-handedly.
The most recent example is his hattrick against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, which allowed Juve to come back after being 2-0 down
In this season, Ronaldo already scored 19 goals and created 8 goals in 25 league games. This number is especially impressive considering 18/19 is his first season in the Serie A. Probably his biggest achievement was already mentioned: Keeping his club in the Champions League.
Ronaldo is able to do things, which no other player is able to achieve and therefore is rightfully on the top of this list.
