Teams like the New Day, the Usos, the Hardyz, and the Bar have all held tag team gold in 2017. On NXT there is also some great teams like the Authors of Pain and Sanity. However, there are still some really great tag teams that are not members of the WWE roster. Take a look at the best of those teams.

#5 Motor City Machine Guns

Tag teams take on different dynamics, especially today. Once upon a time, great tag teams were known for having two wrestlers who brought two different things to the table. Usually, one person was the speedy, agile guy and the other was the powerhouse of the two.

Examples of this include the Legion of Doom and the British Bulldogs. Then we started to see teams like the Rockers where the two partners had very similar skill sets. Today the WWE has the Usos as a team that came from this mould. These teams were often known for there ability to do exciting moves often in tandem.

The Motor City Machine Guns are the modern-day version of the Rockers or the Rock and Roll Express. Two athletic guys who both are capable of doing very exciting moves. The “Guns” is a very accomplished tag team outside of WWE.

They have been a team on and off for over a decade, and have won tag titles pretty much wherever they go. They also are the Current Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions. All of MCMG’s accomplishments have helped to cement them as one of the greatest tag teams never to make it to the WWE.

#4 The Addiction

One of the big difference between WWE and promotions outside of WWE is that WWE often sells entertainment and the “independents” big selling point is athleticism and the quality of wrestling itself.

What makes the Addiction great is that they are good at all these things. Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian are both very good on the mic, and they are even better when they are together. Their on-screen chemistry is apparent to anyone who watches.

They are incredibly entertaining when they are talking as well as while performing in the ring. This team has been known under multiple names in multiple organizations, and they were equally entertaining and successful wherever they went. Both Daniels and Kazarian have had successful individual careers, but as a team they have been exceptional.

#3 Guerrillas of Destiny

Two second-generation wrestles, tag team partners who are biological brothers and both from Samoan heritage. Young and hungry! If you are only familiar with WWE then you probably think this is a description of the Usos, but these statements are also true about the Guerrillas of Destiny.

The Guerrillas of Destiny (GoD) are a tag team made up of two brothers, Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa. They currently perform almost exclusively for New Japan Pro Wrestling. These guys have are famous outside of their accomplishments. They are the sons of Haku, and members of the world-famous group, Bullet Club.

GoD have made a name for themselves on their own though. They have had many great matches against teams like the Briscoes and War Machine. These two men have also been IWGP Tag Champs three times, and have been apart of the Never Openweight 6-man champs two times. As members of the Bullet Club, they have reached a new level of popularity and notoriety. Their arrogant and aggressive attitudes have made them exciting to watch, as well as their in-ring style.

#2 War Machine

Today, there are many different styles showcased by tag teams. Some are made up of very fast and athletic guys. Some have a dynamic of a more athletic guy and a powerhouse. Other teams might be made up of a couple of mat technicians, so on and so forth.

War Machine is different in that as they are a little bit of everything. The first thing you will notice when you see these two men is their sheer size. Hanson and Rowe are both big men, and their Viking like personas only add to their intimidation factor. However, this is not where they cease to impress. Their ability to do athletic moves in the ring can be astounding. They often do moves in the ring and from the top rope that are usually reserved for the Junior Heavyweight wrestlers.

War Machine are multiple time IWPG Heavyweight Tag Team Champions among other titles. It is not enough however just to look at their accomplishments. To fully understand what War Machine is capable of you must see them in action. Matches against the Guerrillas of Destiny and the Young Bucks are great examples of just what they can do in the ring.

Rumors of War Machine being signed by WWE could soon take them off this list, but will not diminish what they have done or capable of doing. It would be very exciting to see what they can do in a WWE ring.

#1 The Young Bucks

Believe it or not, when you are an independent wrestler, there are actually some opportunities you have that you wouldn’t have with the WWE. For example, WWE superstars typically aren’t able to go to other promotions and compete for that promotion’s championship.

On the other hand, when you are an independent wrestler or even work for a smaller promotion like Ring of Honor you can hold titles from multiple promotions at the same time. This is the case with the Young Bucks.

Holding more titles than they can carry is just one of the reasons that Matt and Nick Jackson, the Young Bucks, are the best tag team in the world today. The Young Bucks have won titles in pretty much every organization they have stepped foot in. That includes holding all of those championships at the same time. However, there is a very good reason for that.

The Young Bucks are one of the hottest things going in professional wrestling today. They have some of the best and highest rated tag team matches. They are a part of the biggest group in wrestling, the Bullet Club. They also are members of the other biggest group(within a group) The Elite. Their YouTube channel, Being The Elite, has over 150,000 subscribers and is extremely popular with the fans. They use that channel to create their own stories and they try to interweave them with the in-ring storylines.

More proof of the Young Bucks success is their merchandise sales. The Bucks are a part of the merchandise deal with Hot Topic, which sells their shirts in all of the Hot Topic locations. Their merchandise success can even be seen at Raw and SmackDown, where many fans show up wearing Young Bucks and Bullet Club shirts. All of this is just a proof of how the Young Bucks really connect to their fan base, and that is the biggest reason they are the hottest tag team today.
