There have been several teen horror TV shows in the past ten years or so that have entertained viewers and provided just as many excitement and scares as some of the best horror films that focus on high schoolers. From a thriller about a group of friends to an adaptation of a classic slasher film, these TV shows are worth binge-watching anytime.

The MTV series Scream is actually good, and it’s also a perfect example of a fairly well-done teen horror TV show. Whether focusing on Emma Duval (Willa Fitzgerald) in seasons 1 and 2 or telling the story of Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler) in season 3, the show deals with a slasher story while also focusing on changing friendships, dramatic romantic relationships, and family issues.

Fans of the Scream franchise will still find a lot of horror movie elements here, from the classic costume and mask that Ghostface wears to many characters being murdered. But the show blends high school life with horror in a cool way that never feels boring.

A good teen thriller TV series is always a great idea to binge watch. Pretty Little Liars has 7 seasons full of cool and smart characters and many opportunities to guess who the evil, horrible stalker A is.

When A assembles an entire team to spy on the main characters, it’s impossible to turn away from this exciting show. There are plenty of scenes that are great for horror movie fans, whether Hanna, Spencer, Emily, and Aria are celebrating Halloween or doing some stalking and spying on their own to learn who’s doing this to them. The series is pretty horrifying and unnerving as it’s tough to imagine being spied on for so many years, especially as a teenager when so many other parts of life are changing rapidly.

There are some great horror comedies about vampires, and the popular teen drama The Vampire Diaries, which aired for 6 seasons from 2009 until 2017, blends terrifying moments with young adult problems.

As Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) becomes friendly with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), she becomes invested in a universe of vampires and other creatures, especially since her BFF Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) is a witch and her other friend Caroline Forbes (Candice King) is turned into a vampire. Kevin Williamson brings his signature combination of teenage angst and scary moments to the show, as he’s known for Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Dawson’s Creek.

The mysterious teen drama/mystery The Society had one 2019 season and is one of the best TV shows on Netflix. As teenagers in West Ham, Connecticut realize that they are totally alone and there are no grown-ups left, they have no idea what is going on and are definitely terrified.

Fans compare the show to Lord Of The Flies as some teenagers want to be in control and have everyone listen to them but others want to be compassionate and get through this experience in one piece while helping each other out. The idea of being all alone in a small town with no adult supervision might be exciting at first, but it definitely rivals the most disturbing horror movies once the teens turn on each other.

Based on the book by Zoe Aarsen, the Hulu series Light As A Feather imagines what would happen if the famous game “light as a feather, stiff as a board” had horrifying real life consequences.

Violet Simmons (Haley Ramm) is new to town and she becomes pals with McKenna Brady (Liana Liberato). After the group of teenage girls play this game, people start dying. There are some common aspects of the genre here, from a new kid at school to a group of close friends who care about being popular. It’s a great TV show for fans of The Craft remake and original movies, and while it isn’t the most critically acclaimed or fresh and creative series that has come out in recent years, Light As A Feather will interest fans of the teen horror genre. The show was canceled after two seasons and each episode is around 24 minutes, making it a fairly quick show to get through.
