However, if you grew up in the late 90’s, the Tony Hawk video games were everywhere and Neversoft kept knocking it out of the park with most of their 90’s and early 2000’s releases giving us a string of classics.

It’s unlikely that we will ever see another Tony Hawk game so in order to pay homage to the series me and many of you out there loved, let’s take a look at the 5 best Tony Hawk games ever made.

#5 Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2

The original THPS is also a classic but this spot has to go to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. Although I played this one much later than a lot of the other games on this list, it was still a great experience. Manual’s were introduced for the first time. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 also cemented the Tony Hawk games as a huge franchise for Activision.

#4 Tony Hawk’s Underground 2

Unlike a lot of other fans of the Tony Hawk series, I’m a bigger fan of Underground 2 rather than the original. Yes, it was whacky and the story was sort of the Jackass version of a skateboarding show but I loved every minute of it. Stages took us around the world from Boston and Barcelona to New Orleans and it was a blast at every stage.

#3 Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 was almost perfect. It’s one of the highest rated PS2 games of all time and for good reason. It’s unadulterated fun.

The game introduced the revert which allowed players to then do a manual and string together massive combos. THPS 3 was also the first game in the series to add online capabilities.

#2 Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 took what Neversoft had done with THPS 3 and perfected the formula. It is easily one of the best action sports games of all time.

THPS 4 introduced Free Roam of levels for the first time in the series and also “skitching” where players could skitch behind cars to gain extra speed.

#1 Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland

Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland is one of my favourite games of all time and after recently finishing it on PS2, I can safely say that it’s my favourite game in the series.

The story is whacky and brilliant as you help put together the American Wasteland theme park. For the first time, instead of different levels, we got the city of Los Angeles with different connected areas to play around in. The game also introduced BMX bikes for the first time.

With smooth and responsive controls, the game was a blast to finish.
