And while the Royal Rumble traditions include Kofi Kingston’s recoveries, a rampage by a monster megastar, and the nostalgic fulfillment of seeing one of your childhood heroes bring back awesome memories, the number thirty spot is as important as anything else in the entire match.
But this year, we already know who will take this valuable spot, because after winning the meaningless Mixed Match Challenge season two, R Truth has the chance of a lifetime to win the Royal Rumble, as he is the 30th entrant.
While some feel this is WWE playing around with fan expectations, we could actually see Mr. Dance Break himself get this possible career changing spot, but who could have been better in his spot?
#1 Kevin Owens
The story of Kevin Owens’ career in WWE has not been a happy one, well at least up to this point, as WWE has truly misused the multi-talented big man for far too long, and to be honest it feels like an eternity ago when KO burst on the scene and destroyed John Cena in his first match.
But WWE has the opportunity to make it right, as Owens’ hiatus from Raw could be really beneficial for him, because his character has had time to replenish.
And there is no doubt that Owens’ return to the company will surely please fans, as he left a hero in his match against Bobby Lashley, so KO returning in the last moments of the Royal Rumble match would put his career on a more exciting path once again.
#2 Bray Wyatt
Bray Wyatt’s career mirrors Kevin Owens’, as they are both NXT breakout stars who won world titles, but soon become mid-card jobbers for the creative team, yet Wyatt’s gimmick allows him many chances to rebuild himself, and it is almost certain that his eventual return to WWE would see him placed higher on the pecking order.
WWE is in desperate need of huge stars, so instead of going out and acquiring huge wrestlers, or calling up semi-developed NXT talent, WWE should rebuild stars like Wyatt.
He is still a huge star that just needs a bit of marketing to catch the attention of wrestling fans, and what better way to do that than to make him the number thirty entrant in the Royal Rumble match?
#3 Batista
The Royal Rumble is the one time in the year you can expect a former legend to reappear on your TV screen, and one of the most likely veterans to make an appearance in WWE this year is Batista.
No matter what you think about Batista, his contribution to the wrestling business can’t be overlooked, as he was one of those superstars from the ruthless aggression era that really retained the relevance of pro wrestling after attitude era, and now with his popularity skyrocketing, it is without a doubt that WWE would want to utilise him right now.
Moreover, with Batista and Triple H teasing a marquee showdown, it is possible that Batista would want to end his career with the narrative that got him over, and to reintroduce him to the WWE Universe, being the last man in the Royal Rumble match would be a great way to do that.
#4 AJ Styles
AJ Styles is poised to be WWE’s biggest star this year, as his watered-down character got a needed momentum boost when he assaulted Vince McMahon on SmackDown Live a week ago, as it added a new layer to AJ’s character, because the happy smiling version of Styles is gone, and now we see the former WWE Champion more aggressive than ever.
This new found aggression saw Styles best four other competitors to become the number one contender for the WWE title at the Royal Rumble, and even though many feel he will win the gold, it feels too early for Daniel Bryan to drop the title.
So where does that leave Styles?
Well, it leaves him with the strong possibility of winning the Royal Rumble match, and entering at number thirty would be a decision that could provide a special moment in the match.
#5 Kenny Omega
A few years ago, the thought of Kenny Omega coming to WWE was equivalent to Jinder Mahal winning the WWE title, but just like Jinder winning the WWE title, it seems like Omega could be Vince McMahon’s top guy very soon.
Rumours have been going wild that WWE has offered Omega a fantastic deal, and after losing the IWGP Heavyweight title at WrestleKingdom, it seems like this rumours could be true.
Where better to debut Omega than in the Royal Rumble match?
